I love that it feels super mid-century but also very much product of singular sensibility

with a great sheen and smoothness from use and age

I might use it as a serving dish

with some other writing below the signature that I cannot make it

and great in the hand--I would probably hang it on the wall (probably via a couple of tiny nails between the teeth) or simply set it on a tray with a few other lovely and interesting things

The little whittled figure at the rear of the barge is very lovingly done, with pins at the shoulders to allow one to move his arms (gently) up and down, and curiously, a snap glued to the top of his head, I assume just as a hat! I have a feeling the rudder beside him was the maker's proudest accomplishment, carefully
